PASSION FOR CASHMERE
We truly want to share our passion for luxurious cashmere clothing with you
“When I think back to the beginning of London W11, I remember being passionate about having my products made in Italy and Scotland, where I could find the right collaborator to produce truly glamorous luxury cashmere knitwear and then offer it at a guilt free price”
THE ORIGIN OF THE BEST CASHMERE FIBRE
Just over 80% of the world’s cashmere is produced in China and Mongolia, because of the constant climate. The cold weather in these countries promotes the growth of warm fur on the throat, chest, and underbelly of the goats. Chinese cashmere is known for its fineness, while Mongolian cashmere is known for its length of fibre. Herders shear or comb the goats during the goats' natural moulting cycle, usually in the spring spring. The goats produce brown, white or grey hairs (fibres) that can be dyed.
THE FINEST
There are 2 ways to measure the quality of the cashmere fibre:
The thickness of the fibre: The thickness is measured in microns, which is thousandths of a millimetre. The average thickness of each cashmere fibre is about 12.5 – 18.5 microns, and the thinner the individual fibre is, the more expensive the cashmere.
The length of the fibre: Cashmere fibres are between 30 – 50 millimetres long, and the longer the fibres are, the higher the price will be. This is because garments made of shorter or thicker fibres tend to pill faster, and lose their shape more easily.
London W11 chooses without compromising the perfect cashmere yarn needed for each gauge of their cashmere clothing to ensure that each garment retains its shape for many years with the minimum of pill.
COMMITMENT TO HIGHEST QUALITY
London W11’s commitment to highest quality of cashmere fibre shows in the number of goats used to produce the raw cashmere fibre required to knit one London W11 cashmere item. Typically the fibre from four goats are required for the production of one cashmere jumper. London W11’s highest quality yarn requires the fibre from eight goats to knit one cashmere jumper.
MADE IN SCOTLAND AND ITALY
We at London W11 believe in buying our cashmere yarn at the best mills in Scotland and Italy and producing our cashmere capsule collection where there is a heritage of spinning the finest fibre and dying the yarn: Scotland and Italy, where this luxurious yarn is then knitted into London W11’s effortless chic cashmere items.
